Ephesians 6:1-9 Gospel-shaped 4/26/26 Sermon

Sermon Video:

Gospel-shaped > Ephesians 6:1-9

6:1-4 Gospel-shaped home. Paulโ€™s teaching on how the Gospel changes Christians extends from marriage (5:22-33) to the family. Children are called to obey their parents in line with Godโ€™s law and the way that He has made the world: obedience brings blessing. Parents โ€“ fathers are specifically in view here โ€“ are to seek to not frustrate or provoke their children, but instead are to build them up in every way that points to the Lord, through discipline and instruction.

6:5-9 Gospel-shaped work. Those who are servants (laborers or workers would be the closest modern equivalent in our society) should seek to serve in a way that honors the Lord and reflects Jesus. They arenโ€™t merely serving their boss, but the Lord! Similarly, those who are โ€œmastersโ€ (our closest equivalent would be bosses or owners) must not seek to control their workers through fear, but instead are to care well for their workers and to keep in mind that the Lord is the One with ultimate power and authority.

The Point: The Gospel transforms the lives of Godโ€™s people, so that we are called to reflect Jesus in what we do and say.

Prayer: Lord, help us to be conformed to King Jesus rather than to the practices and trends of our world. Teach us that Your ways are best, and that submission and obedience are good things, practices that we are to joyfully follow Jesus in.

Application: How will you call on the Lord to make you treasure obediently following Jesus this week?

Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
