The What, Why and How at First Evangelical Free Church

We glorify God by making disciples who joyfully desire to obey all that Christ has commanded.

1) What is a church?

A church is a body of Christians (Acts 2:41-42) who are accountable to one another and gather regularly (James 5:16, Acts 20:7, Hebrews 10:25) to hear the proclamation of God’s Word (1 Corinthians 2:3-5), and to obey Christ’s ordinances of baptism (Matthew 28:19-20) and communion (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

2) What do we do?

A church’s purpose is to glorify God by making disciples of all peoples by evangelizing and trusting God for their salvation, and by teaching those who respond to obey all that Christ has commanded through the Scriptures (Matthew 28:19-20).

3) How do we do it?

We make disciples by means of the teaching ministry of the church (Ephesians 4:11-13), which equips us to obey what Christ has commanded with regard to repentance leading to salvation (Acts 2:37-38), the ordinances (Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26), evangelism and discipleship (Matthew 28:19-20), and Christian love (John 13:34-35).

4) What is a Christian?

A Christian is a person who admits their sins and follows after Christ as their Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9, Acts 2:38, Matthew 4:17), and expresses this commitment through the actions of committing to a local church (Hebrews 10:25) and walking in a manner which reflects their relationship with Christ (Galatians 5:13-26, Matthew 5:1-7:29).

We are a member church of the Evangelical Free Church of America.
