Philippians 4:10-20 Giving is Rejoicing 10/25/26 Sermon

Sermon Video:

4:10-13 Partnership is about trusting God. Paulโ€™s relationship with the Philippian church teaches us something crucial about partnership and about trusting the Lord: when we root our contentment in Jesus, we will have joy in spite of our circumstances. This changes everything for the Christian โ€“ which means that it also changes everything in how we think of partnerships for the sake of the gospel.

4:14-20 Giving is about worshiping God. What Paul wants us to see is that contentment is at the heart of his partnership with the Philippians. Not money. Not any worldly metric of โ€œsuccess.โ€ Instead, itโ€™s the relationships that the Lord has given between Christians who rejoice in Christ together and who are excited about what Heโ€™s doing in and through them.

The Point: genuine gospel-centered partnership includes money and support, but it focuses on something even more important: relationships driven by rejoicing in Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for being so good to us. Thank you for your generosity to us at the cross and across our lives โ€“ and for eternity! Help us to reflect something of that generosity in how we support and care for one another.

Application: Is your contentment rooted in Christ? Or is it driven by your circumstances? How will you cultivate a generous heart โ€“ financially, relationally, with your time and attention, and in every other way โ€“ toward your fellow gospel-workers at First Evangelical Free Church?

We are a member church of the Evangelical Free Church of America.
