Today, we are reminded of the strength of our Savior…
- D. A. Carson reminds us in a wonderfully told story: “It’s not the intensity of our faith but the object of our faith that saves.” What you and I need most in our faith is not for every question we have to be answered, it’s not even necessarily that we would never have any doubts. Instead, what we need most is to cling to our Savior, obeying Him even when we aren’t sure of all the reasons for what He has said. Carson’s brief sermon excerpt is an absolute gem.
- In a related vein, I really enjoyed J. C. Ryle’s chapter on “Assurance” in his well-known book “Holiness.” This is a bit longer, but well worth your time to read through and chew on in the week ahead. And a tip: when I come across longer articles like this, I print them out so that I can read them at my leisure – if you struggle with reading online, give it a try!
