God’s King > Psalm 2:1-12
2:1-3 Nations rebelling. The nations and people of the earth plot rebellion against God. We so often think that our ways are best and that his ways are a hinderance and a problem.
2:4-6 Yahweh laughing. Yet, the Lord is God – he is in control. All of the money and power and politics and armies of the world will not thwart his righteous and merciful plans: God’s King – not any other – will be the one who rules.
2:7-9 Jesus ruling. Jesus joins his voice with the Father’s: he rules the nations, he will rightly judge any and all who oppose him. No rebellion will succeed.
2:10-12 Wisely responding. God’s grace and mercy is on full display: he calls rebels to repent, to trust, to have Jesus – not themselves – as their king. Judgment is the end of those who won’t embrace the Lord. Blessing is the end of those who will.
Background: Psalms 1-2 form the prologue of the entire book; they speak of what it means to embrace God’s rule.
The Point: Christ is King; you and I are not. Blessing is only found in him by those who bow down to him.
Head: Do you call Jesus your King?
Heart: How will Christ’s kingship change your hopes in life?
Hands: What will it look like for you to live as a subject of the King? How will his rule and reign change your life, your attitudes, and your words and actions toward others?
Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
