Sermon Video:
The Resurrected King > Mark 16:1-8
16:1-4 They went…to honor Jesus. Mark has introduced these
three ladies previously; here, he notes how they sought to
honor Christ by burying him according to the proper customs.
16:5-6 They heard…that Christ lives! Arriving at the tomb, the
ladies find an angel present, and Christ gone. The angel
confirms what Jesus had said would happen: he has risen
from the grave!
16:7-8 They fled…and told the good news. The ladies flee
from the tomb in both fear and wonder. The other gospel
authors tell us that they met up with the disciples and told
them what had happened.
The Point: In Christ, there is sure and certain hope. Mark
records a very earthly reaction – preparing for a funeral –
when Jesus had told his followers to expect something very
different: life from death! We have hope for eternity when
we trust our Risen King.
Prayer: Lord, what an amazing reality – our King lives! And
because he lives, we know that our sins are paid for and that
our hope in him is solid. All his promises are certain. This
Easter, work in our hearts that we would grow in our trust
and our worship as we follow the Risen King.
Application: Rejoice in the King who defeats all that ails us –
death and disease have no hold over him; and because of his
power, they will not be the final word for we who follow him.
Trust Jesus, tell others of the good news, wait in faith.
Here is how I will apply these truths: _______
