Sermon Video:
4:1 The call. Because Jesus has the victory and because we benefit in Him, we are called to act as the new kind of people that He has created us to be.
4:2-3 The way. The “kingdom person” that Jesus calls us to be is the sort of person who prizes the very things that Jesus perfectly examples: humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to pursue peace and unity.
4:4-6 The why. Why is unity such a big deal for Christians? It’s because our entire faith points toward our one hope in our one God. Our very unity is meant to display our God to the world! Anything less and we skew Him badly.
4:7-10 The how. Thankfully, the power for unity doesn’t come from our own feeble efforts, but from Christ’s victory. He has done – and will complete – the work. Our role is to faithfully respond to Him.
The Point: Being a Christian calls for a response. We are a people who know what Christ has done and live differently on account of His gracious and merciful call given to us.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for equipping us to respond to what you have already done. Work in us that we would glorify you!
Application: Is your faith real – does it change not just what you think, but do your beliefs result in a different life than otherwise? Do you pursue this kind of Christ-like example in the church? Do you aim for this kind of unity?
