Hear His Voice > Psalm 95:1-11
95:1-2 Called to worship. The psalm opens with the call to everyone to respond to the Lord: God is worthy of our worship and we are to respond to him rightly and truly.
95:3-7a Reasons to worship. We have numerous reasons to worship God: he is all-powerful, he is the Creator, he has made you and I and called us into relationship, he has made us into his people whom he cares for.
95:7b-11 Don’t fail to worship. Given all the reasons we have to worship God, and given that we are made to worship him: if we fail to worship, if we refuse to worship, if we test God rather than trusting him, we will not enter into his promises.
Background: Psalm 95 combines both worship and warning in a way that links back to Israel’s past rebellious history (Exodus 17:1-7 and Numbers 14:20-25).
The Point: We were made to worship our God and he has been good to us – let’s not fail in our purpose!
Head: Believe in God’s goodness to you and to his people. He has every right to our worship, and we have every reason to offer it to him.
Heart: What you believe about God affects whether you will worship him. Do you trust him? Or constantly test him?
Hands: Worshipping the Lord involves all that you are in responding to him. Lift your voice to sing his praises! Engage your heart and mind and actions.
Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
