Genealogies and Timelines

I was recently reading through 1 Chronicles and kept getting confused by all the genealogies. Of course, I’m not alone in this – and it doesn’t help when certain folks have more than one name! Coming from a small family with very direct and clear relationships, the complicated stories of Jacob (Israel) and his family tree lose me in no time. So, at my wife’s prompting, I went searching online and found a few resources that are helpful, which I thought I would pass along (though I am certainly no expert in genealogies or timelines, so there could well be mistakes – as with any resource, check them against the Scriptures):

  1. Interactive chart of Biblical genealogy. This isn’t the easiest website to use, but it does allow you to scroll in and follow a family tree down the line. There is a PDF version of the chart available here.
  2. Though some of the date-ranges are debatable, the same website has a nice timeline from Adam to Abraham.
  3. A different way to navigate Biblical time is seen here.
  4. Though you need a large monitor to really make use of this, an even easier to use (and interactive) genealogy is found here.

We are a member church of the Evangelical Free Church of America.
