The LORD and My Lord > Psalm 110:1-7

110:1 Jesus is Lord. Jesus himself asks the question that we all need to think through: when David writes of the LORD (Yahweh) speaking to David’s own Lord, just exactly who is that? Christ makes clear – and the rest of the New Testament confirms – that this psalm is speaking of Jesus.

110:2-3 Jesus is King. Jesus is the divine king – he is the one that David’s line not only pointed to, but also culminated in.

110:4 Jesus is Priest. Jesus is also the high priest of his people. Unlike Aaron and his line, Jesus never sinned. His priesthood is, therefore, perfect and eternal, offering and accomplishing exactly what we need for forgiveness.

110:5-7 Jesus shall judge. Our King and Priest shall rightly and justly and perfectly judge every enemy, all who stand against him. Sin and the devil shall not win.

Background: Psalm 110 is quoted from extensively throughout the New Testament. It is a prophecy about Jesus and fulfilled by him.

The Point: Christ is our King and Priest. His kingship shall not fail, and his priesthood accomplishes everything we need.

Head: Believe that Jesus is the one identified by this psalm.

Heart: Take heart and have hope: our King will reign. Under his rule, everything will be set right forever!

Hands: Lift your voice and hands to worship our great King!

Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
