Sermon Video:
Our King Has Come! > Mark 11:1-11
11:1-3 Preparation. Jesus draws near to Jerusalem and plans to enter in a very specific manner. He sends two disciples to retrieve a colt for him to ride upon.
11:4-6 Prophecy. Confirming that Christ is in complete control, everything happens exactly as he said it would. Make no mistake: every event that we shall read of throughout Mark’s gospel is intentional and under Christ’s authority.
11:7-11 Praise. Those accompanying Jesus are excited: not only is it a religious festival, but they also recognize that something unique is happening because of Jesus. They do not know all the details – and plenty will change upon entering the city – but their gladness in God is real.
The Point: Christ has come into his royal city. Jesus is the promised messiah and has all the authority (and more!) of a king. Some around him seem to recognize parts of this, but only in small glimpses. Others seem to take no notice at all. Which shall we be? How will we respond to the king?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for King Jesus. In a world of distraction and one that tries to fix our attention on everything that is less important than Jesus, make us faithful worshipers of our King, and faithful ambassadors of his grace and love to others.
Application: If you are not a Christian, then know this: the king has come! What will you do about him? And if you are a Christian, how will you worship him as we approach Easter?
Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
