Our Great God > Psalm 8:1-9
8:1-2 Yahweh’s strength. Because of the Lord’s great works, He is worthy of all worship. He hears our praises and defeats our enemies.
8:3-4 Yahweh’s care. God’s handiwork is specific and purposeful – and it is no less so with humanity. We have a point, we are image-bearers of Him! Yet we are sinful. As broken as we are, how astounding it is that God cares so much for us!
8:5-8 Yahweh’s King. God’s care isn’t accidental. No: it’s part of His plan. Where we have failed, one human has not: Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man. He reigns, He rules! We have hope because of Him!
8:9 Yahweh’s greatness. How should we respond? Just the same way we began: with worship.
Background: Psalm 8 is the first “praise” psalm in the Bible. It largely sets parts of Genesis 1 to music, combining those truths with what will be picked up on in the New Testament.
The Point: Humanity has point and purpose – and Christ perfectly defines and highlights that as our King.
Head: Do you embrace God’s purpose for humanity?
Heart: Will you trust God’s King for your hope and identity?
Hands: Who can you tell about God’s love and care this week? Who will you reassure with His wonderful truths?
Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
