Our Fortress > Psalm 91:1-16

91:1-2 Abide. These verses tell of the blessing for whoever would rightly dwell in the Lord through trust. Though we do not perfectly fulfill this, there is one who does…

91:3-13 Deliver. The psalmist is speaking not just about any faithful believer, nor even any of the many kings of Israel. Rather, he is speaking about Jesus. Jesus is the one whom the Father will protect, give authority and honor to, and deliver. Jesus is the one who fulfills this entire passage.

91:14-16 Blessing. Because this psalm is all about Jesus, we now find the Father speaking of his Son. It is Jesus who shall receive all blessing, honor, glory, and praise. And, therefore, because our King perfectly abides, we who trust in him shall have the joy of eternal life.

Background: Psalm 91 is one that is difficult to interpret. By paying attention to who is speaking, we can better understand what is going on.

The Point: This psalm is for us, but not about us. It’s about our King, and in him, we shall be eternally blessed.

Head: Embrace the truth that Jesus is the most important person in history.

Heart: How will you respond to Christ’s work with your worship?

Hands: How does having Jesus at the center of everything benefit you? Who will you share that blessing with?

Here is how I will apply these truths: ___________________
